§ 1 — Significado de la cadena Q118·Q120

GEEK is a common English word for an enthusiast or expert, especially in computing and technology, and more broadly anyone with a passionate interest in a subject (e.g., "film geek"). It is widely used as a positive term of self-identification.

/ɡiːk/

§ 2 — Misión y propósito Q133

.GEEK is an open gTLD for enthusiasts and experts of every kind. While "geek" is rooted in computing and technology culture, the word has broadened into a universal marker of passionate interest — people describe themselves as film geeks, food geeks, history geeks, and data geeks. The mission of .GEEK is to provide this worldwide population — and the creators, communities, and businesses that serve it — with a short, memorable, semantically rich namespace for self-expression, community, and commerce built around enthusiasm and expertise. Intended registrants and users include: individuals who self-identify as geeks in any domain, registering personal sites, portfolios, and project pages; developers, engineers, and technology professionals; content creators, reviewers, streamers, and podcasters producing enthusiast content across technology, gaming, film, food, and other verticals; fan communities, clubs, and events; and businesses marketing to enthusiast audiences, including retailers, repair and IT services, media, and education brands. .GEEK will

operate as an open TLD: registration will be available to any registrant worldwide through ICANN- accredited registrars, with no eligibility restrictions, consistent with the applicant's confirmation under

Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement. Self-identification is the only association the string implies, and the registry imposes no membership criteria. Activities carried out to date include: evaluation and selection of the string as part of a complementary portfolio of identity- and affinity-oriented TLDs; contention and risk analysis under the 2026 Applicant Guidebook; engagement of Tucows Registry Services as the intended Registry Service Provider; financial planning demonstrating registry viability; and retention of specialist ICANN counsel. Planned activities

include: execution of the Registry Agreement and delegation; implementation of all required rights- protection mechanisms, including Sunrise and Trademark Claims; a phased launch (Sunrise, Early Access,

General Availability) through the ICANN-accredited registrar channel; publication of acceptable-use and DNS-abuse mitigation policies consistent with the Base Registry Agreement; and marketing to creator, technology, and enthusiast audiences through the applicant's existing registrar customer base and industry channels developed over 28 years of DNS operations (easyDNS Technologies Inc., operating since 1998). The purpose is sustainable over time because it rests on a recurring annual renewal revenue model with conservative volume projections that produce positive cash flow at modest adoption; an outsourced registry back-end (Tucows) providing predictable per-name operating costs; and a financially stable applicant with nearly three decades of continuous, profitable DNS infrastructure operations. The culture of enthusiasm the string describes is broad, global, and self-renewing, giving .GEEK a durable registrant base that is not dependent on any single technology trend.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
