§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120

"Solana" has no literal meaning in English. Within the blockchain and digital-asset context, the term is principally recognized as the name of the Solana technology ecosystem.

/soʊˈlɑːnə/

§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133

The mission and purpose of .solana is to provide a stable, secure, and memorable DNS namespace for lawful online identities, content, products, and services associated with the Solana technology and digital-asset ecosystem.

The intended registrants include businesses, projects, developers, validators, infrastructure providers, service providers, creators, publishers, event organizers, ecosystem participants, and other individuals or organizations seeking a distinctive domain name relevant to Solana-related technology, applications, information, commerce, media, or services. The intended users include Internet users who seek to identify, navigate to, or interact with those registrants through names in the .solana TLD. While Solana-related technology and ecosystem activity are expected to represent an important source of demand for the TLD, .solana may also serve other registrants seeking a recognizable and memorable domain name for online identities, content, products, services, or organizations.

Ana Naming Limited has been established to apply for and, if successful, operate the .solana gTLD as a namespace associated with the Solana technology and digital-asset ecosystem. The TLD is not proposed as a community-based TLD and is not intended to be limited to a single membership body, registrant class, organization, segment of the ecosystem, or narrow use case. Rather, .solana is intended to support a broad range of lawful uses, including Solana-related uses, while preserving flexibility for the namespace to serve businesses, projects, institutions, developers, users, and service providers as the ecosystem continues to evolve.

To achieve this mission and purpose, Ana Naming Limited intends to work with its registry service provider, ICANN-accredited registrars, and other service providers to support reliable registry operations, registrar onboarding, launch planning, rights-protection implementation, DNS abuse mitigation, and publication of clear registration and acceptable-use policies. The applicant also expects to promote awareness and responsible use of the .solana namespace among likely registrants and users seeking Solana-related online identities.

This purpose is sustainable because .solana is tied to a recognized and active technology ecosystem, but is not dependent on any single registrant, product, segment, or short-term use case. The breadth of ecosystem-related development, commercial activity, infrastructure, content, services, and user interest, together with established registrar distribution channels, scalable registry infrastructure, and revenues from registrations and renewals, is intended to support the long-term operation and development of the TLD.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
