§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120

DEPOT according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary means “A place of deposit for goods or a warehouse. Storehouse”. It comes from the French “dépôt”, broadly of the same meaning.

/ˈdiːpoʊ/

§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133

CORE Association is applying for the .depot TLD as a standard gTLD to provide an open, secure, and intuitive namespace for online shopping, and e-commerce business.

The .depot TLD will be actively positioned to serve online shopping, e-commerce, wholesale, and business-to-business (B2B) enterprises.

The TLD will be available for registration by warehouse operators, online shopping hubs and digital repository creators. CORE will work with these actors and also with online shopping platforms and payment services providers to establish trusted online platforms, directory services, and hubs related to physical and digital inventories.

This newly proposed domain is powerful in terms of characterizing the broad nature of the countless interactive web materials, transaction portals, and supply-chain platforms used by commerce and logistics-focused Internet users across the globe.

This gTLD is focused on providing a space for modern commercial and supply-chain realities, driving businesses to pursue a more useful, direct, and convenient way to represent their activities, services and products.

Besides the space that .depot gTLD will provide for online shopping and e-commerce services, it will also become a more natural digital home for emblematic pages dedicated to physical distribution sites and local supply depots, where general-purpose web extensions feel generic or unsuitable. The broad, universally recognized meaning of ".depot"—bridging both physical storage and digital hubs—will have equal appeal for them all.

CORE is confident that the .depot TLD will fit a wide array of purposes for a wide variety of Internet users: corporate B2B platforms, personal inventory/collecting blogs, institutional data repositories, and highly active e-commerce and wholesale storefronts.

Finally, the .depot gTLD is highly sustainable over time. Ongoing operations will be funded and maintained through competitive registration fees, steady transaction volume, and the continuous, rapid growth of global supply chains and digital storage networks. Online shopping, in fact, precedes both the web and even the DNS and has been since the early nineties a central part of all online activities. Over 80% of internet users actively buy products online and this trend is not likely to change in the foreseeable future.
