§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120
“Hype” is an English word referring to extensive publicity or promotion intended to attract attention or generate interest or excitement. “HYPE” may also be used as an identifier for certain technology, digital-asset, Web3 projects or communities.
/haɪp/
§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133
Hype Naming Limited has been established to apply for and, if successful, operate the .hype gTLD as part of its objective of supporting competition, choice, and innovation in the Domain Name System.
The mission and purpose of .hype is to provide a stable, secure, and memorable namespace for lawful online identities, content, products, services, and organizations. Intended registrants include individuals, businesses, projects, developers, service providers, creators, publishers, event organizers, and organizations seeking a distinctive domain name relevant to HYPE, digital assets, Web3, financial technology, media, entertainment, commerce, or other online activities. Intended users include Internet users who seek to identify, discover, navigate to, or interact with those registrants.
HYPE-related technology, digital-asset, Web3, and online activity are expected to represent important audiences for the TLD. These may include HYPE ecosystem businesses and partners, developers, digital-asset and Web3 projects, trading and financial-technology services, application and infrastructure providers, educators, creators, publishers, event organizers, and individuals seeking an online identity relevant to HYPE or related technology.
The namespace is designed to accommodate a broad range of lawful uses while maintaining a connection to HYPE-related technology, digital-asset, Web3, and online activity. It may serve HYPE-related participants as well as other registrants seeking a recognizable and memorable domain name for online identities, content, products, services, or organizations.
Hype Naming Limited intends to support this purpose by working with its registry services provider, ICANN-accredited registrars, and other service providers to make .hype domain names available, support reliable registry operations, implement rights-protection and DNS-abuse mitigation measures, and promote awareness and responsible use of the namespace.
This purpose is sustainable because .hype is not dependent on a single registrant, company, industry, product, activity, or short-term use case. The continuing relevance of HYPE-related technology and digital-asset activity, together with the broader applicability, recognizability, and expressive qualities of the string, established registrar distribution channels, scalable registry infrastructure, and revenues from registrations and renewals are intended to support the long-term operation and development of the TLD.
