§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120
The term generally refers to a celebratory event, gathering or activity, but it is also widely used as an informal and adaptable expression in many different contexts.
/fɛst/
§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133
The mission of the .fest gTLD is to provide a secure, stable and broadly accessible namespace for individuals, businesses, organizations and other lawful users worldwide.
The term “fest” is commonly understood as a shortened form of “festival.” It was selected because it is short, memorable and adaptable as an Internet identifier. Although the term may evoke celebration, creativity, participation, entertainment or shared experiences, these associations are illustrative only and do not define or restrict the permitted uses of the TLD.
.fest will operate as an open, general-purpose gTLD. Registrants will not be required to demonstrate any connection with festivals, events, entertainment or any other particular activity or field. Domain names may be registered and used for websites, email, digital identities, commercial activities, creative projects, informational resources and other lawful purposes, subject to applicable law, ICANN requirements and registry policies.
The purpose of .fest is to expand consumer choice within the Domain Name System by offering a distinctive and versatile naming option capable of supporting a wide variety of lawful users and uses. The Applicant intends to make registrations available through ICANN-accredited registrars, maintain appropriate rights-protection and DNS-abuse-mitigation mechanisms, and operate the registry in accordance with applicable technical, operational and contractual requirements.
The namespace is intended to remain sustainable over time because it is not dependent upon a single event, industry, geographic market, community or category of registrant. Its broad purpose will allow .fest to serve different users and adapt to evolving forms of online activity.
