Ultimately controlled by George Minardos, George Minardos, George Minardos Q108 · ICANN record ↗
Workbench Ventures LLC (the applying entity) is not itself an existing registry operator and is not an ICANN-accredited registrar.
Workbench Ventures LLC is an Affiliate of an existing registry operator. The affiliated registry operator is Plan Bee LLC, which is the registry operator for the .build top-level domain under a Registry Agreement with ICANN.
The affiliation arises from common control, within the meaning of the definition of "Affiliate" in Section 2.9(c) of the Base Registry Agreement. George Minardos is the sole member and Managing Member of both Plan Bee LLC and Workbench Ventures LLC. Through his sole membership and management authority, Mr. Minardos possesses, directly, the power to direct the management and policies of each entity. Because both entities are under the common control of the same person, Workbench Ventures LLC and Plan Bee LLC are "under common control with" one another and are therefore Affiliates as that term is defined in the Base Registry Agreement.
Neither entity holds an ownership interest in the other. The affiliate relationship is based solely on common control (the "under common control with" prong of the definition), not on a parent-subsidiary relationship.
§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120
"Maker" is a common English noun meaning a person or entity that makes, builds, or produces something — including individuals who design and create in craft, hardware, and technology.
/ˈmeɪkər/
§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133
MISSION
The mission of .maker is to give makers worldwide — the people and organizations who design, build, create, and produce things — a dedicated, memorable, and trusted namespace to establish their identity and share their work online. .maker offers makers of every kind a clear home on the internet that signals what they do.
PURPOSE, INTENDED REGISTRANTS, AND USERS
.maker is an open, generic top-level domain available to anyone who identifies with making and creating. Intended registrants and users include individual makers, artisans, crafters, and hobbyists; makerspaces, hackerspaces, fab labs, and workshops; hardware, electronics, 3D-printing, woodworking, and small-scale manufacturing businesses; designers, inventors, and independent creators; educators and STEM/STEAM programs; and maker fairs, clubs, and online networks. Registrants will use .maker domains to publish portfolios and project logs, sell products, document builds and tutorials, host club and event sites, and connect with customers and collaborators.
RELATED ACTIVITIES
To achieve this purpose, the registry operator will operate .maker through an experienced ICANN-accredited back-end registry service provider on secure, standards-compliant infrastructure; distribute domains through ICANN-accredited registrars on a first-come, first-served basis under clear, non-discriminatory registration policies; implement all required rights-protection mechanisms, including a Sunrise period and Trademark Claims service via the Trademark Clearinghouse; maintain DNS-abuse prevention and mitigation, a published abuse point of contact, and periodic zone monitoring; and conduct outreach to maker networks, events, and educational programs to encourage adoption. The operator will also cross-promote .maker alongside its affiliated .build registry to reach the adjacent audience of builders and creators.
SUSTAINABILITY OVER TIME
The purpose of .maker is sustainable because it rests on a broad, durable, and growing global interest in making — spanning craft, DIY, hardware, and technology — rather than any single trend, registrant, or use case. The registry is operated by a team with direct registry experience: Workbench Ventures LLC is under common control with Plan Bee LLC, operator of the .build TLD, giving .maker access to proven operational, technical, and financial capabilities. Startup and long-term operations are funded by the applying entity, and the use of a professional back-end provider ensures continuity, security, and compliance with the Base Registry Agreement, including registry-continuity and data-escrow protections. A diversified base of registrants across many maker segments, combined with disciplined operations and open registration, supports steady long-term growth without dependence on any single customer or market.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.

Workbench Ventures LLC offers the following supplemental information regarding its background and operating experience.
The applying entity is under common control with Plan Bee LLC, the registry operator of the .build top-level domain; George Minardos is the sole member and Managing Member of both entities. Through this affiliation, the .maker application is backed by more than a decade of hands-on experience operating a live generic top-level domain.
Since .build's delegation, its operator has maintained a stable, secure, and well-managed namespace — running on professional registry infrastructure, distributing domains exclusively through ICANN-accredited registrars, implementing rights-protection mechanisms, and applying ongoing DNS-abuse monitoring and response. Two measures illustrate the result. First, .build has sustained an exceptionally low level of DNS abuse: since 2021, across approximately 11,000 domains under management, the operator reviewed 118 potential abuse concerns (such as malware and phishing) and confirmed only two as legitimate, each promptly referred to the sponsoring registrar for action — an incidence of approximately 0.02% (two domains in roughly 11,000). Second, .build has maintained a strong renewal rate: over the past five years (2021–2025), approximately 84% of .build domains coming up for renewal were renewed, indicating that registrants make genuine, lasting use of their .build names rather than registering them speculatively. Together these reflect sustained compliance with ICANN's requirements and the discipline of operating a clean, trustworthy TLD over many years.
This experience transfers directly to .maker. The TLD will be operated using the same ownership, infrastructure approach, and operational discipline, drawing on proven technical, financial, and policy capabilities rather than starting from scratch. Builders and makers are naturally adjacent audiences, and the operator's established know-how positions .maker to launch and grow as a stable, responsibly managed home for makers worldwide.
The applying entity is committed to operating .maker to the same standard of security, stability, and abuse prevention that has characterized its stewardship of .build.
