§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
The mission and purpose of the TLD “.secom” (the “TLD”) as applied for in this application, are to operate the TLD as a .brand TLD and to establish a trusted domain name space for the applicant’s websites, online services, and official online communications.
1. Overview of the applicant and the trademark
SECOM was founded in 1962 as the first security company in Japan. In 1966 we developed the first online security system for commercial use in Japan and built an infrastructure spanning the whole country.
In 1981 we launched Japan's first home security system and established a home consumer market. Currently, we have around 3.8 million subscribers as of September 30, 2025.
“The Social System Industry” vision was announced in 1989. Centering around our security services, the SECOM Group has expanded to include fire protection services, medical services, insurance services, geospatial information services, and BPO·ICT services. Based on a security network that fosters safety, we are tackling the creation of a new social infrastructure that wholly supports services and systems for security, convenience and comfort.
In addition, our international operations have established offices in 18 countries and territories, expanding into Taiwan, Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
“secom” is a registered trademark of SECOM and is widely recognized as identifying the applicant and the products and services it provides.
2. Intended registrants and users
The TLD will be operated as a .brand TLD. Registrants and users of domain names under the TLD will be limited to the applicant, its Affiliates, and applicant-authorized trademark licensees of “secom”.
3. Mission and purpose of the TLD
The purpose of the TLD consists primarily of the following three points.
Purpose 1: Enhancing the trademark’s presence in the online environment
The applicant will register domain names under the TLD incorporating the trademark and will use them on an ongoing basis in its online business activities. This increases the visibility of the trademark.
Purpose 2: Providing a trustworthy Internet environment
The TLD will be operated as a .brand TLD with registrations limited to the applicant, its Affiliates, and applicant-authorized trademark licensees. This helps Internet users identify TLD domain names as official resources used under the applicant’s authorization, reducing the likelihood of confusion or misunderstanding.
Purpose 3: Avoiding security risks relating to domain names
To reduce domain management and operational risks, such as avoiding drop-catching, the applicant will operate the TLD with restricted registrations under the applicant’s control.
4. Activities to achieve the purpose
To achieve the purpose of the TLD, the applicant expects to undertake the following activities:
• Promoting official use: Deploy domain names under the TLD for websites, online services, and official online communications provided by the applicant and its Affiliates, and communicate to stakeholders that domain names under the TLD are used as the applicant’s official online resources.
• Establishing operational governance: Establish and implement unified internal rules for the TLD, including registration procedures, naming conventions, and permitted purposes of use.
5. Sustainability of the purpose
Because the applicant’s trademark will remain central to its business activities over the long term, the TLD will continue to create value over time. Domain-related risks, including drop-catching, are expected to remain ongoing challenges. Continued use of a .brand TLD will remain important for security and user protection by helping reduce such risks and enabling Internet users to identify the applicant’s official online resources.
