§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

A short form of the English word "popular", as in "Pop Music" or "Pop Culture"

/pɒp/

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

The mission and purpose of the applied-for .pop gTLD is to provide a short, energetic namespace built around popular culture, popular music, and the wider idea of what pops: what stands out, appears suddenly, and catches attention. "Pop" is one of the most internationally recognisable short words in English, carried around the world by pop music and pop culture, including regional scenes such as K-pop, established in commerce through pop-up shops and pop-up events, and literal in food and drink, where things pop, fizz, and snap. Intended registrants include musicians, DJs, bands, labels, and fan communities in pop music and its regional scenes, media, entertainment, and fandom ventures covering popular culture, film, gaming, and celebrity, retailers, market traders, and street-food operators running pop-up shops, stalls, and temporary venues, party acts, children's entertainers, and event organisers, food and drink brands in playful categories such as snacks, popcorn, and craft sodas, and individuals and creators wanting a short, upbeat address. Registrations may be used for artist, label, and fan community sites, gig guides and event pages, entertainment and culture media, pop-up shop and market presences, product launch and limited-edition campaign sites, food and drink brand identities, and personal and creative pages. The purpose is sustainable because popular culture renews itself continuously by definition, with new artists, scenes, and fandoms emerging constantly, because pop-up commerce has become a recurring, established format in retail, food, and events, and because the playful consumer categories the word fits are large and always producing new brands, together supporting a broad and continually replenishing base of legitimate registrants over time.
