§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

NERD is a common English word for a person with deep intellectual or technical interests and expertise, particularly in computing, science, and gaming. It is widely embraced as a positive badge of identity, enthusiasm, and expertise.

/ nɝːd /

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

.NERD is an open gTLD celebrating deep enthusiasm and expertise. "Nerd" is a badge of honor: a term of proud self-identification for people who care intensely about technology, science, gaming, and specialized knowledge of every kind. The mission of .NERD is to give this global population — and the creators,

communities, and businesses that serve it — a memorable, semantically rich namespace for self- expression, community, and commerce.

Intended registrants and users include: individuals who self-identify as nerds (developers, gamers, scientists, makers, collectors, and hobbyists of every kind) registering personal sites and profiles; content creators, streamers, podcasters, and bloggers producing enthusiast content; clubs, meetups, and fan sites; and businesses serving enthusiast markets, from game and comic retailers to electronics, education, and media brands that speak to enthusiast identity. .NERD will operate as an open TLD: registration will be available to any registrant worldwide through ICANN-accredited registrars, with no eligibility restrictions, consistent with the applicant's confirmation under Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base

Registry Agreement. Self-identification is the only "membership" the string implies, and the registry imposes none. Activities carried out to date include: evaluation and selection of the string as part of a complementary portfolio of identity- and affinity-oriented TLDs; contention and risk analysis under the 2026 Applicant Guidebook; engagement of Tucows Registry Services as the intended Registry Service Provider; financial planning demonstrating registry viability; and retention of specialist ICANN counsel. Planned activities

include: execution of the Registry Agreement and delegation; implementation of all required rights- protection mechanisms, including Sunrise and Trademark Claims; a phased launch (Sunrise, Early Access,

General Availability) through the ICANN-accredited registrar channel; publication of acceptable-use and DNS-abuse mitigation policies consistent with the Base Registry Agreement; and consumer marketing aimed at creator, gaming, and technology-enthusiast audiences, leveraging the applicant's existing registrar customer base and 28 years of DNS industry operations (easyDNS Technologies Inc., operating since 1998). The purpose is sustainable over time because it rests on a recurring annual renewal model with conservative volume projections that produce positive cash flow at modest adoption; an outsourced registry back-end (Tucows) providing predictable per-name costs; and a financially stable applicant with nearly three decades of continuous DNS operations. Enthusiast identity is durable and growing: each generation produces new nerds, new fandoms, and new creator economies, giving the namespace a naturally renewing registrant base.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
