Gabia Inc. is an ICANN-accredited registrar. Registrar ID: 244
§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
Korean word meaning "Korea" or "of Korea"; broadly signifies Korean identity, culture, and tradition, including the global Korean Wave (Hallyu). No single direct English translation exists.
[hɑ́:n]
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
The mission of the .HAN new gTLD is to build an open, recognizable, secure, and intuitive digital namespace inspired by Korean culture, innovation, technology, and language, for individuals, commercial enterprises, cultural organizations, and communities connected to Korea worldwide. .HAN does not represent, and is not intended to speak on behalf of, the government of the Republic of Korea or any nation, state, or ethnic group; rather, it is offered as an inclusive namespace open to registrants worldwide who are inspired by Korean language and culture. In today's expanding Domain Name System (DNS), traditional TLDs face increasing saturation, making it harder for new businesses, creators, and organizations to secure concise, meaningful, brand-appropriate web addresses. .HAN addresses this market need by offering a fresh, memorable, and culturally meaningful alternative. The Korean word "han (韓)" is inspired by Korean cultural identity and the global cultural reach represented by Hallyu (K-Culture), while also carrying, as a native Korean word, the meaning of "one/unity" — evoking themes of connection, inclusiveness, and global digital integration. By offering a dedicated digital identifier, .HAN aims to broaden consumer choice, foster healthy market competition, and serve as a trusted digital hub connecting Internet users worldwide with Korean-inspired content, commerce, and digital services. By expanding multilingual and cultural expression within the top-level DNS infrastructure, .HAN also directly supports ICANN's goal of advancing diversity and global inclusiveness across the Internet. To reiterate, the string does not assert official representation of the Republic of Korea or of any nation, government, or ethnic group, and remains open to registrants worldwide who are inspired by Korean culture.
As an open, non-discriminatory generic gTLD, .HAN is intended to serve, without limitation:
(i) individuals, businesses, and cultural organizations expressing a Korean-culture-inspired identity, including overseas businesses, creators, and communities connected to the global Hallyu fan base;
(ii) content creators and cultural institutions promoting Korean arts, media, and language worldwide;
(iii) e-commerce and service providers supporting cross-border trade and digital transactions connected to Korea; and
(iv) general global registrants seeking a short, pronounceable, internationally recognizable domain extension.
Gabia Inc., an ICANN-accredited registrar with a global network of registrars and resellers, will promote .HAN registrations domestically and internationally via Identity Digital's international registrar network.
The Registry Operator will:
(i) maintain transparent, fair, non-discriminatory registration policies through its global registrar network;
(ii) apply robust DNS abuse mitigation, including automated threat detection, rapid response to phishing, malware, and spam, and DNSSEC;
(iii) pursue global outreach with marketing partners, industry associations, and cultural organizations to drive adoption; and
(iv) implement Universal Acceptance (UA) and Email Address Internationalization (EAI) across software, browsers, and systems worldwide.
The cultural connection .HAN reflects is an enduring asset that has continued to grow globally through Hallyu. Sustainability will be secured through a balanced model: registration and renewal revenue across standard, premium, and enterprise categories, combined with corporate financial support from Gabia, will fund build-out and operation, as detailed in the Financial Evaluation Template (MLS/WCS) submitted herewith. Technically, a partnership with Identity Digital, an experienced ICANN-accredited backend RSP, ensures high availability, 24/7/365 resilience, and full compliance with ICANN's technical SLAs. A portion of operating revenue will be reinvested in marketing and registrar incentives to sustain stable growth.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.

Beyond its core meaning of "Korea," the string "HAN" carries additional layers of significance in the Korean language. It is also the Korean surname "Han (韓)," offering individuals bearing this surname a natural opportunity for personal or family branding.
Additionally, as a native Korean word, "han" can express notions of "large," "one," and "wide" — evoking themes of unity and expansiveness that may resonate with registrants building brands around connection and integration.
These additional layers of meaning are not the basis of the TLD's evaluation and are provided solely as supplementary context.
