§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

“Gate” is an English word meaning an opening or means of entry. In this application, “Gate” also identifies the Gate brand and its global digital-asset, Web3, and technology platform and ecosystem.

/ɡeɪt/

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

Gate Naming Limited has been established to apply for and, if successful, operate the .gate gTLD as part of its objective of supporting competition, choice, and innovation in the Domain Name System.

The mission and purpose of .gate is to provide a stable, secure, and memorable namespace for lawful online identities, content, products, services, and organizations. Intended registrants include individuals, businesses, projects, developers, service providers, creators, publishers, event organizers, and organizations seeking a distinctive domain name relevant to digital assets, Web3, financial technology, trading, wallets, applications, infrastructure, education, research, or other online activities. Intended users include Internet users who seek to identify, discover, navigate to, or interact with those registrants.

Gate-related technology and ecosystem activity are expected to represent an important audience for the TLD. Gate is a global digital-asset and Web3 platform founded in 2013 that reports serving more than 50 million users worldwide. It describes products and services spanning spot, derivatives, and other trading; wallet and on-chain services; developer and institutional tools; payments; education, research, and market information; and consumer offerings. These activities may support registrants such as Gate ecosystem businesses and partners, developers, digital-asset and Web3 projects, trading and financial-technology services, wallet and application providers, infrastructure operators, educators, creators, and ecosystem organizations.

The namespace is designed to accommodate a broad range of lawful uses while maintaining a strong connection to Gate-related technology, digital-asset, Web3, and ecosystem activity. It may serve Gate ecosystem participants as well as other registrants seeking a recognizable and memorable domain name for online identities, content, products, services, or organizations.

This purpose is sustainable because .gate is not dependent on a single registrant, company, industry, product, community segment, or short-term use case. The continuing scale, activity, and breadth of the Gate technology and digital-asset ecosystem provide an important source of demand, while the broader applicability of the string supports additional lawful uses. Established registrar distribution channels, scalable registry infrastructure, and revenues from registrations and renewals are intended to support the long-term operation and development of the TLD.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
