§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
"TRADEMARK" means a distinctive legal sign (word/logo) identifying source of goods to distinct competitors. In our opinion, the string represents a globally verified, secure namespace exclusively for validated trademark rights holders.
/ˈtreɪdmɑːrk/
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
Mission and Purpose of the Dot Trademark gTLD
The gTLD "trademark" is a purpose driven, verified generic top level domain created exclusively for validated trademark rights holders worldwide. It replicates the proven success of the Chinese script "商标" TLD, a model requiring strict trademark rights verification for domain registration, turning the domain string into an authoritative trust mark of brand authenticity. Its mission is to ensure every active domain under the Dot trademark TLD represents a validated trademark right, providing global consumers with trusted web links leading to genuine goods and services, while equipping brand owners with a powerful institutional tool to combat counterfeiting, impersonation, and cybersquatting.
Target Registrants
Registration is strictly restricted to applicants who can demonstrate verifiable trademark rights. Eligible parties include owners of registered word, figurative, or combined marks; unregistered brand identities supported by formal judicial or administrative determinations; trademarks protected under the Madrid System and other multinational frameworks; and marks validated via the ICANN Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). All applicants, including for profit enterprises, non profit organizations and individual entrepreneurs, must complete the registry’s rigorous trademark rights verification workflow to confirm genuine rights holder status prior to domain allocation.
Target Users
Primary users are global consumers. When accessing domains such as brand.trademark, users receive immediate, policy backed assurance that the corresponding brand identity has undergone independent validation, substantially lowering risks of phishing, counterfeit purchases and fraudulent services. Secondary users are trademark holders themselves. Adopting the trademark TLD provides them with a universally recognized digital trust signal, strengthening online brand protection, streamlining cross border enforcement, and improving consumer confidence and loyalty.
Activities to Fulfill the Mission
1. Rigorous Trademark Verification: Implement comprehensive registry verification policies for reviewing official trademark certificates, records from trademark databases across all jurisdictions worldwide and supporting legal evidence. Validation is performed by a specialized team, augmented by automated cross checks with global IP databases and subsequent manual review.
2. Class Aligned Rights Protection: Deploy registry level allocation rules and dispute resolution mechanisms aligned with international trademark classification systems, reducing confusingly similar domain registrations and protecting legitimate brand owners from unfair competition within relevant industry sectors.
Long Term Sustainability
The long term sustainability of the "Dot Trademark" gTLD is underpinned by the enduring global demand for trademark and brand protection. With rapid growth of the digital economy, brand impersonation and counterfeiting have become a persistent multi billion dollar risk for global commerce. This strictly validated, exclusive namespace delivers a cost effective digital identifier for trademark owners, generating stable registration demand and high renewal rates driven by inherent commercial value.
The registry will replicate the proven operational model of the Chinese script "商标" TLD, where improved consumer trust and reduced infringement encourage long term domain retention by brand owners. These established best practices will be transferred to the Dot Trademark gTLD. Ongoing registration and renewal revenues will fund core operations including verification administration, international outreach and technical security upgrades. Supported by mature governance and deep expertise covering trademark law and DNS management, the Dot Trademark TLD will develop into a credible, sustainable and essential global namespace over the long term.
