§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
WordPress is a registered trademark and brand name with no direct English definition.
ˈwɜːdˌprɛs
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
We are applying for .wordpress as a TLD with a Specification 9 - Code of Conduct exemption. WordPress powers over 40% of the web, and our mission with this TLD reflects WordPress's longstanding commitment to open source software and an open web. Built on the principle that publishing should be free and accessible to everyone, WordPress has long championed the democratization of publishing — and the .wordpress TLD extends that commitment into the namespace, establishing a trusted space that Automattic, through its registry entity Knock Knock WHOIS There, will responsibly steward on behalf of the open-source project and the open web.
In accordance with a model for a TLD with an exemption from Specification 9 of the Registry Agreement, we will implement a strict registration approval process to ensure registrations are limited to these types of registrants which will include:
- an internal request and approval process for the Registry Operator or its Affiliate(s) that wish to use a domain name within our TLD;
- creation of pre-defined registration policies setting out who can register a domain within the TLD;
- use of a trusted corporate registrar for the creation of all domain names. The registrar will only accept requests from authorized individuals within our organization.
This purpose is sustainable because it is tied directly to WordPress’s core, ongoing identity, rather than to any time-limited initiative. Knock Knock WHOIS There has dedicated long-term financial, technical, and operational resources to its digital infrastructure and strategy, and the .wordpress TLD will be maintained and governed under that same continuing commitment for the foreseeable future.
