§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
The applied for string, "merlin" refers to the shortened brand name of Merlin Attractions Operations Limited
/ˈmɝlɪn/
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
The mission of the .merlin dotBrand TLD is to provide a secure, stable and trusted digital namespace for the exclusive use and management of the Merlin brand. It is intended to support Merlin’s online identity in a manner that is aligned with its long-standing global reputation as a trusted brand and its long-term strategic objectives.
As a globally recognised brand owner of customer experiences and locations both in person and online, Merlin Attractions Operations Limited relies on trust, data integrity, and clear brand recognition. A dedicated .merlin dotBrand TLD will help reinforce these objectives through new services, products, locations, and experiences in the future.
Under the .merlin dotBrand TLD, all domain registrations will be restricted to organizations and affiliates within our corporate group, and potentially, to licensees of our trademarks. The TLD will allow us to establish a secure, trusted, and highly recognizable digital space for the organization.
We will implement a strict registration approval process to ensure registrations are limited to these types of registrants that will include:
- an internal request and approval process for any part of the business that wishes to use a domain name within our TLD;
- creation of pre-defined registration policies setting out who can register a domain within our TLD;
- use of a trusted corporate registrar for the creation of all domain names. The registrar will only accept requests from authorized individuals within our organization.
All domains will be exclusively for achieving our corporate objectives. Operation of the TLD in this restricted manner will easily be sustainable in the long term through the above-mentioned controls.
Importantly, the intended use of the .merlin TLD directly supports Merlin's future brand architecture. Rather than operating purely as a holding company behind a portfolio of independent brands as we exist largely in our current form today, Merlin intends to evolve towards an endorsed brand model in which the Merlin brand becomes a more visible and trusted customer-facing identity across its global attractions and experiences. Our ambition is to fundamentally create a sense of connectedness with our brands so that consumers are able to recognise and create a sense of identity from Merlin to our brands.
Illustrative examples of this might include:
altontowers.merlin
londoneye.merlin
legolandwindsor.merlin
madametussauds.merlin
Over time, the .merlin TLD would serve as a strategic asset underpinning Merlin’s digital identity, supporting marketing, security, and innovation goals. The TLD will be operated in full compliance with ICANN policies, applicable data protection and financial services regulations, and industry best practices for DNS stability and abuse mitigation.
