§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
AgentID is short for "agent identity/identifier." The string is intended for the Agent Name Service (ANS), an open standard that connects AI agents to domain names to create verifiable identities discoverable through DNS.
/ˈeɪdʒənt ˈaɪˈdi/
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
1. Mission and Purpose
The mission of the .agentid generic top-level domain is to provide a memorable, category signaling namespace that complements the Agent Name Service (ANS) ecosystem: an open framework for the identification, authentication, discovery, and trust verification of artificial intelligence (AI) agents operating across the Internet. The purpose of .agentid is to give AI agents, agent operators, businesses, developers, and platforms an agent-native place in the domain namespace that clearly signals the agentic web. .agentid is intended as a neutral, open TLD. Registration will be open to all eligible registrants, with standard registry anti-abuse safeguards applied uniformly rather than through eligibility restrictions.
The value of .agentid is not that it creates identity, but that it offers agents and agent services a recognizable, purpose-built namespace that complements the evolving agentic web.
Intended registrants:
• Developers and operators of AI agents and agent-based applications.
• Enterprises deploying AI agents for customer service, commerce, productivity, security, or operational functions.
• Technology platforms, cloud providers, and software vendors integrating AI agent capabilities.
• Research institutions, standards bodies, and public sector organizations developing agent-based systems.
• Registries, marketplaces, and service providers supporting agent discovery, verification, and interoperability.
Intended users:
• AI agents communicating with other agents.
• Individuals and businesses interacting with verified AI agents.
• Platforms and applications seeking to discover and authenticate agents.
• Developers building services that rely on agent identity and interoperability.
The .agentid namespace will facilitate a range of activities in the agent ecosystem. Names registered in .agentid can participate in ANS in the same way as any other domain, allowing operators who choose an agent-native name to:
• Provide a memorable, category-signaling namespace for agents and agent services.
• Enable discovery and resolution of agent endpoints using Internet standards and DNS-based mechanisms.
• Publish metadata describing agent capabilities and supported protocols.
• Carry cryptographically verifiable trust signals, certificates, attestation records, and transparency-log entries.
• Interoperate across emerging agent communication protocols and ecosystems.
• Adopt open standards for agent identity as they develop.
2. Sustainability Over Time
The purpose of .agentid is sustainable because it rests on infrastructure that is already operational, not on a projected future need alone.
ANS is live in production today. GoDaddy operates a live Registration Authority, which currently carries approximately 175,000 registrations. The supporting standards work is public and ongoing, including an IETF draft and an OWASP specification, and the reference implementation has been contributed to the Linux Foundation for independent, long-term stewardship. An open standard under neutral governance, with a working registry and a substantial base of existing registrations, is more durable than a single vendor’s roadmap because its continuity does not depend on any one operator.
This existing foundation creates a need that is expected to grow substantially. As businesses, governments, and consumers adopt autonomous and semi-autonomous systems, the number and diversity of AI agents will increase, along with the enduring requirement for mechanisms that allow participants to determine an agent’s identity, provenance, capabilities, and trustworthiness. .agentid provides a stable, agent-native namespace within that ecosystem. Accordingly, .agentid is intended to serve as a durable component of evolving Internet infrastructure, supporting the long-term growth of trusted autonomous systems and the agent-driven digital economy.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
