§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

A glitch is a sudden, usually temporary malfunction or irregularity, especially in software, electronics, or digital media and, by extension, may describe an aesthetic that embraces digital errors and artifacts.

/ɡlɪtʃ/

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

The mission of .GLITCH is to create a distinctive namespace for technology, creativity, experimentation, and the unexpected. A "glitch" can describe a temporary technical fault or unexpected behavior, but the concept has also become part of digital art, gaming, music, design, and popular culture. .GLITCH provides a memorable digital identity for people and organizations that explore, document, solve, create with, or simply celebrate the unexpected.

Intended registrants include software developers and technology companies, testing and reliability teams, open-source projects, educators and researchers, gaming communities, digital artists and designers, musicians and creators, galleries and festivals, preservation and emulation projects, technology-tool providers, experimental projects, media organizations, and individuals with a meaningful connection to the term. Intended users include developers, researchers, students, creators, gamers, technology professionals, artists, fans, and curious audiences seeking related projects, information, tools, entertainment, art, communities, or experiences.

Natural and legitimate uses include software development and testing; technical experiments and demonstrations; incident analysis and documentation; research and education; open-source projects; gaming and interactive media; glitch art and digital design; music and audiovisual projects; emulation and digital preservation; creative communities; technology tools; personal sites; and other relevant products, services, content, and experiences. Sometimes a glitch is something to fix, and sometimes it is where the interesting part begins. .GLITCH provides a natural digital identity for both sides of that idea. Oinkadot intends to support the development of the namespace through broad registrar distribution, appropriate positioning of .GLITCH for its intended markets, and ongoing awareness of its diverse technological, educational, artistic, entertainment, community, and creative uses.

The purpose is sustainable because glitches are an enduring part of technology while the idea of the glitch has developed a creative life far beyond technical errors alone. As long as people build technology, unexpected things will happen - and people will keep studying them, fixing them, learning from them, and occasionally turning them into art. That intersection of technology, experimentation, creativity, and the unexpected provides a diverse foundation for long-term interest in the .GLITCH namespace.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others.
