§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

To cancel means to call off, terminate, or invalidate an arrangement, action, or obligation and, by extension, may denote cancellation, withdrawal, opt-out, or reversal.

/ˈkænsəl/

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

The mission of .CANCEL is to create a distinctive namespace built around the practical, cultural, and expressive meanings of "cancel." As an everyday action, the word can relate to changing plans, ending services, withdrawing participation, reversing decisions, or communicating that something will no longer take place. It also has broader relevance across media, entertainment, commentary, campaigns, and contemporary culture.

Intended registrants include subscription and membership services, travel and hospitality businesses, event and ticketing organizations, booking platforms, retailers, technology companies, media and entertainment businesses, customer-service providers, creators, publishers, community organizations, campaign organizers, and individuals with a meaningful connection to the term. Intended users include customers, travelers, attendees, members, audiences, and communities seeking related information, options, updates, services, commentary, content, or opportunities to engage.

Natural and legitimate uses include cancellation and rescheduling information; subscription and membership changes; booking, travel, and event updates; service and customer-support resources; discontinued products or activities; media and entertainment projects; cultural commentary; campaigns and community initiatives; humor and creative expression; personal sites; and other relevant products, services, content, and experiences. Sometimes plans change, sometimes subscriptions end, and sometimes "cancel" is the beginning of the conversation rather than the end. .CANCEL provides a memorable digital identity for the many practical and expressive contexts in which the word naturally belongs. Oinkadot intends to support the development of the namespace through broad registrar distribution, appropriate positioning of .CANCEL for its intended markets, and ongoing awareness of its diverse commercial, informational, cultural, community, and creative uses.

The purpose is sustainable because cancellation, change, choice, and reconsideration are enduring parts of commerce, travel, events, subscriptions, services, and everyday life. At the same time, "cancel" has developed broader significance in media, entertainment, social commentary, and contemporary expression. Plans will change, services will come and go, and people will continue to change their minds. These practical and expressive meanings provide a diverse foundation for long-term interest in the .CANCEL namespace.
