§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
The mission of the .grit top-level domain is to provide a distinctive, memorable, and trusted namespace for individuals, businesses, organizations, and institutions that value perseverance, resilience, determination, ambition, and achievement. The Registry Operator intends to establish .grit as an open generic top-level domain that enables registrants to create meaningful digital identities while supporting innovation, branding, and online engagement.
The word "grit" is concise, memorable, globally recognizable, and associated with positive qualities across business, education, athletics, entrepreneurship, personal development, and nonprofit initiatives. Its versatility allows the namespace to serve a broad range of registrants without being limited to a specific industry, geography, or community.
The .grit gTLD will operate as an unrestricted, open generic namespace available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to applicable ICANN policies, Registry Policies, Rights Protection Mechanisms, and Registry-Registrar Agreements.
Intended registrants include businesses, entrepreneurs, startups, educational institutions, athletic organizations, nonprofit organizations, content creators, public figures, professionals, and individuals seeking a distinctive online identity. Intended users include customers, students, business partners, supporters, donors, employees, athletes, consumers, and members of the general public who access websites, services, and online content operated by .grit registrants.
To achieve this mission, the Registry Operator will focus on responsible registry management, broad registrar distribution, and long-term adoption of the namespace. Planned activities include establishing relationships with ICANN-accredited registrars, digital marketing, premium domain name management, industry outreach, participation in relevant conferences and events, strategic partnerships, and targeted business development initiatives designed to increase awareness and encourage adoption of the .grit namespace.
The Registry Operator will utilize an experienced ICANN-approved Registry Service Provider (RSP) to perform the technical registry functions required under the Registry Agreement, allowing the Registry Operator to focus on governance, policy compliance, registrar relationships, marketing, and overall business management.
Sustainability
The mission and purpose of .grit are sustainable because the concept represented by the word "grit" reflects enduring values that remain relevant across industries, professions, and generations. The namespace is not dependent on a particular technology, market trend, or geographic region, providing long-term opportunities for diverse registration and use.
The Registry Operator has developed a conservative business model supported by realistic registration assumptions, diversified revenue opportunities, prudent financial management, and contingency funding resources. Combined with secure, reliable technical operations provided by an experienced ICANN-approved RSP and ongoing investment in registrar relationships and market development, the Registry Operator believes the .grit namespace is commercially viable, operationally sustainable, and capable of serving registrants and Internet users throughout the term of the Registry Agreement.
