§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120

A trademark of a globally recognized AI Large Language Model (LLM)

/kwɛn/

§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133

Qwen is a family of large language and multimodal artificial intelligence models developed by the Alibaba Group, first released in 2023 and now spanning text, vision, audio, coding, and reasoning models.

The mission and purpose of the .QWEN gTLD is to: (1) establish a trusted and intuitive namespace through which developers, enterprises, researchers and the public can identify and access authentic Qwen models, documentation and services; (2) protect the Alibaba's global online presence, brand identity, trademarks and other intellectual property rights in the QWEN name; (3) provide a secure and authoritative channel for Qwen model releases, technical documentation, application programming interfaces and developer support; (4) improve navigation by providing short, memorable Internet addresses associated exclusively with Qwen and authorized initiatives; and (5) support continued research and international growth through a flexible platform able to accommodate new model families, modalities and markets.

The .QWEN gTLD will function as an authoritative source identifier, so that Internet users can recognize that websites in the namespace are controlled by, affiliated with or expressly authorized by the Alibaba. Alibaba will introduce the .QWEN gTLD through a controlled rollout. Initial registrations may be used for technical testing, corporate communications, product and model information, documentation and developer support.

This purpose is sustainable because it is tied to a core business of Alibaba rather than to third-party registration demand. Qwen has been developed and released continuously since 2023, is central to Alibaba's artificial intelligence strategy, and is a durable brand asset the Alibaba intends to use indefinitely.

Déclaration Spec 11 §3(d) Q184

ALIBABA INNOVATION PRIVATE LIMITED intends to operate the applied-for top-level domain as a restricted, single-registrant namespace for the benefit of ALIBABA INNOVATION PRIVATE LIMITED and its “Affiliates,” as that term is defined in Section 2.9(c) of the applicable Registry Agreement.

The applied-for string is a brand term used by ALIBABA INNOVATION PRIVATE LIMITED to identify and distinguish its own products and services. It is not a term that names or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations, or things. ALIBABA INNOVATION PRIVATE LIMITED, directly or through its Affiliates, owns one or more trademark registrations for the applied-for string in jurisdictions in which it operates, consistent with its treatment and use of the term as a proprietary brand identifier.

Accordingly, the applied-for string does not constitute a “Generic String” as defined in Specification 11 of the Registry Agreement. Because the restriction in Section 3(d) of Specification 11 applies only to top-level domains consisting of Generic Strings, that restriction is not applicable, and no conflict exists.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
