§ 1 — Sens de la chaîne Q118·Q120
The name of the capital city of Hungary.
[ˈbudɒpɛʃt]
§ 2 — Mission et objet Q133
The mission of the "budapest" gTLD is to provide a dedicated, trusted, top-level namespace for the city of Budapest - residents, businesses, public institutions, cultural, educational and tourism organisations, media and civil society. Its purpose is to strengthen the local digital identity of Budapest, enabling entities and individuals associated with the city to establish a clear, recognisable online presence and supporting local commerce, culture and public information.
Intended registrants and users include enterprises operating in Budapest, municipal and public-interest bodies, cultural and educational institutions, media and residents. The applying entity - the Council of Hungarian Internet Providers (ISZT), administrator of the .hu ccTLD since 1997 - will operate the gTLD under transparent registration policies, in cooperation with the relevant public authorities of Budapest.
Since the applying entity (ISZT) operates the .hu ccTLD both from technical and registrar perspective; integrating a second TLD into the existing stack (DNSSEC, EPP, RPP, registrar contract framework) results in significant fixed-cost savings compared to a greenfield launch. The applying entity’s established registry expertise, technical infrastructure and non-profit governance, with registration revenues reinvested into the operation and development of the namespace promotes sustainability. Operating a second TLD significantly enhances ISZT Nonprofit Kft.’s level of professional expertise and, in cooperation with the Budapest Metropolitan Municipality, opens up a new channel for social engagement.
