§ 1 — Meaning of the string Q118·Q120
Deploy means to put a system, service, resource, or capability into active use for a specific purpose.
dɪˈplɔɪ
§ 2 — Mission and purpose Q133
Mission and Purpose
The .deploy namespace gives registrants a recognizable web address for putting something into action, whether that means launching software, standing up infrastructure, rolling out a product, or mobilizing people and resources toward a goal. "Deploy" describes the moment something moves from preparation to operation, and a name on .deploy identifies a resource built around that step.
The purpose is to give the organizations and individuals who deploy things a clear online presence for the tools, services, and information behind that work, so users and partners can find and trust where to engage. A deployment platform, a rollout guide, a launch dashboard, or a coordination hub on .deploy becomes a recognizable destination rather than one more path inside a general domain.
For many registrants, what they deploy is increasingly the point: the software, systems, campaigns, or capabilities they put into operation. .deploy lets them present that work under a dedicated identity. For the people who interact with them, the namespace offers a predictable signal of where to look for the thing being put into action and how to reach it.
Intended Registrants
Organizations and individuals who put software, systems, and capabilities into operation, including software companies, platform and infrastructure providers, cloud and DevOps vendors, teams that deploy AI and other systems into real-world environments, and enterprises rolling out products, services, or internal tools. .Deploy will operate on an open registration model, without eligibility restrictions tied to any single company, industry, or type of deployment. Uses are expected to span the full range of what it means to deploy, from software release and infrastructure automation to putting AI systems into production and coordinating operational rollouts, and are not limited to any specific platform, tool, or provider.
Related Activities Supporting the Purpose
- Awareness-building among the technical, operational, and product teams that deploy software and systems
- Registrar distribution targeting technical and enterprise buyers
- Registrant education on consistent naming for deployment resources, documentation, and coordination hubs
- Community outreach through developer conferences and open-source infrastructure ecosystems
- Responsible registry operations, including standard abuse mitigation and registration policies
Sustainability Over Time
.deploy is durable because it is tied to an activity that recurs across technology and business rather than to a single product or vendor. Putting something into operation, releasing software, standing up infrastructure, bringing AI systems into production, or rolling out a product or program, is a permanent part of how organizations work, and the need to name and locate the resources behind that step persists regardless of which specific platforms, tools, or vendors lead at any given moment.
New providers continually enter the market with things to deploy, and established ones expand and version what they offer, which sustains demand for clear, dedicated naming. OpenAI has the operational, technical, and financial capacity to run the registry over the long term, consistent with the commitments described elsewhere in this application, and will continue to adapt registrant services and policies as the space develops.

Q121As per Section 3(d) of Specification 11 of the Base Registry Agreement, a registry operator of a “generic string” may not impose eligibility criteria for registering names in the TLD that limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity and/or that person’s or entity’s “Affiliates” (as defined in Section 2.9(c) of the Registry Agreement). “Generic String” means a string consisting of a word or term that denominates or describes a general class of goods, services, groups, organizations or things, as opposed to distinguishing a specific brand of goods, services, groups, organizations or things from those of others. Confirm that the applied-for string is not a “generic string” in which the applying entity intends to limit registrations exclusively to a single person or entity.
